It doesn’t look good for Randall Cobb‘s season — and potentially his career — after going down with a serious ankle injury in Green Bay’s matchup against the New York Jets.

Cobb, now in his 12th season in the NFL, was carted off the field after being rolled up on a block. The former Wildcat was then shown tearing up while being taken back to the locker room, a sign the injury is a significant one.

Cobb entered the day with 17 receptions for 249 yards, good for 14.6 yards per catch. He had one catch for eight yards before going down with the ankle injury.

The former Wildcat was coming off a season-high 99 yards on seven receptions in Green Bay’s loss to the New York Giants last week in London. After the game, Cobb told reporters that he was in tremendous shape and feeling “great” in his 12th season in the league.

“I’ve been telling you all that for the past couple of weeks (I’m feeling the best I have in years),” Cobb said. “I feel great.”

During his three-year career at Kentucky, Cobb racked up 1,661 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns to go with 1,313 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground. He added 689 passing yards and five touchdowns through the air, along with a combined 1,700 punt/kick return yards with two scores, solidifying himself as one of the most versatile players in UK football history.

He earned First-Team All-SEC honors in 2009 and 2010 while also being named a First-Team All-American in 2010. The Green Bay Packers selected Cobb with the 64th pick in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Question one: just how serious is this injury for Cobb? And an important second question: how much does the Wildcat legend have left in the tank, assuming this ankle issue does knock him out for an extended period of time?

Tough break for Cobb, who had emerged as Green Bay’s go-to target in clutch situations this season.
