Randall Cobb Going For Packers History

by: Will Totten12/16/12@WillTottenKSR

Here at KSR, we abide by the ESPN/Tim Tebow rules when it comes to Randall Cobb. Meaning, we love Randall so we talk about him as much as possible. That’s especially the case when he’s on the verge of breaking the single-season Packers record for All-Purpose yards.

Not much more can be said about Randall Cobb then already has before but this guy is a football machine and it still baffles me how he fell to the 60th pick of the Draft. All he’s done in his 2nd year in the NFL  is lead the league in All-Purpose Yards with 2,091 heading into Week 15, and amassing that large yard total in almost every way possible. Cobb leads the Packers in receiving with 71 catches for 777 yards and 7 TD’s, he’s rushed for 132 yards, returned punts for 255 yards, and ran back 927 yards worth of kickoffs.

The current Packers record was set in 2003 by Ahman Green who totaled 2,250 yards. Randall is also in striking distance of the NFL record as well, a record that was set last season by Darren Sproles at 2,696 yards. At Cobb’s current pace of around 160.8 yards a game, he would fall short of the league record by 123 yards but still demolish the Green Bay record, which is truly a great accomplishment in itself.

“He played quarterback in college so he understands football and the intricacies of getting in and out of concepts. Football, in my opinion, comes very easily to him, so we’ve always envisioned doing as much as we can with him.”

McCarthy said the Packers designed a number of sets in the offseason to utilize Cobb’s versatile skills. They’ve only been able to use a few of those plays because of the way the games have played out.

“We have to be smart in how we use him,” McCarthy said. “He has a lot of responsibilities. We don’t want to overexpose him.”

Mike McCarthy has obviously figured out what the Big Blue Nation already knew; Randall Cobb is awesome at everything he does.

***GAME UPDATE*** Randall has 4 catches for 76 yards in the 1st half against the Bears, along with 11 kickoff return yards and 5 punt return yards. The Legend of Cobb stands at 2,183 yards now, 68 yards to go…
