Vaughn's Quick Announcement May Signal End of 2014 UK Recruiting

by:Jay Hochstetler02/04/14
rashadvaughn   The #13 ranked player in the 247sports Composite rankings Rashad Vaughn will be making his announcement on Saturday. Vaughn has narrowed his list to UNLV, Iowa St, UNC, and UK, but UNLV and Iowa State appear to be heavy favorites. The #3 ranked shooting guard in the class was supposed to make an official visit to UNC in two weeks, but it appears he has made up his mind. Vaughn hails from Minnesota, but has played his senior season in Henderson, Nevada at Findlay Prep, a basketball prep team backed by UNLV-alum Cliff Findlay. Vaughn officially visited UNLV and Iowa State back in November. For most of his junior season, the battle for Vaughn appeared to be a two-horse race between UNC and UK, but both schools appeared to back off over the summer as UNLV and Iowa State became the favorites. UK began making a late push for Vaughn with two visits in January, but the lack of an official visit signals it may have been too little, too late. Iowa State is the current Crystal Ball favorite for Vaughn (59%) with UNLV in second (29%). Vaughn spoke highly of Iowa State after his visit in November to Adam Zagoria. I have had Iowa State selected for Vaughn since early September after UK and UNC backed off his recruitment. This is an interesting development in the completion of the 2014 recruiting class for UK because the apparent top targets, Rashad Vaughn and Montaque Gil-Caesar, are now unlikely to be headed to Lexington. However, the rumored return of the Harrison Twins would indicate that no more recruits would be necessary to fill out the rotation for the 2014-2015 season.
