Kentucky’s recruitment of running back Jamarion Wilcox is lasting longer than anyone in the BBN would like to see. Wildcat fans must play the waiting game a little longer.

Wilcox, a three-star running back from the Atlanta suburb of Douglasville, has kept a relatively low-profile throughout the recruiting process. A former Georgia Tech commit, he officially visited Lexington in October, pushing the Wildcats ahead of Clemson in the pecking order. Ohio State got involved and Hugh Freeze made a late push upon arriving at Auburn, but Wilcox never arrived on campus for an official visit to The Plains. Instead, he hosted Kentucky running backs coach Jay Boulware for an in-home visit.

That was the last time we heard directly from Jamarion Wilcox. Since then the BBN has waited for a commitment to Kentucky. The Early Signing Period came and went. Mark Stoops provided some reassurance that his staff would remain diligent and yet it’s been mostly crickets.

Wilcox remained quiet as Cats Illustrated’s Travis Graf became the point person, providing updates throughout the process. This week we learned Wilcox was finally prepared to make a decision this Friday. Now Graf reports that has been delayed one more week to Friday, Jan. 13.

Does another delay matter? Not really. As long as this guy is in a Kentucky uniform next year, the Wildcats are in good shape. However, the delay does confirm that he will not be enrolling early. Spring semester classes begin Monday and Jan. 13 is the final day to enroll.

High school football recruiting rarely follows a clean script. Some take longer than others and feature a little more drama. This 2,000-yard rusher and 29 touchdown-scorer might be taking his time to announce a decision, but he never wastes it getting into the end zone. Patience is a virtue and we’ll (fingers crossed) learn in eight days if the wait was worth it for Mark Stoops and Co.
