There have been several (too many) bad losses during this shortened 2020 season for the Reds, but this afternoon's 3-2 loss to the Pirates ranks up there with the worst ones.
The Reds managed just three hits during the game, but held on to a 2-1 lead until the bottom of the ninth inning. Nick Castellanos put the Reds on the board with a two-run Home Run in the top of the third to put Cincy on top. Then, in the bottom of the inning, the Pirates answered with a Bryan Reynolds RBI single that cut the lead to 2-1.

That score would hold until the bottom of the ninth inning.
Raisel Iglesias allowed three consecutive hits to begin the bottom of the ninth and the Pirates scored to tie the game. The Pirates would then win via a sacrifice fly from Erik Gonzalez for the 3-2 win.
Prior to the blown save from Iglesias, Amir Garrett, Nate Jones, and Michael Lorenzen had combined to throw 2 1/3 innings of one-hit, shutout baseball.
This afternoon's loss dropped the Reds to 18-23 on the season, splitting the four-game series with the Pirates. Cincinnati will remain on the road heading to Chicago for a three-game series with the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Tomorrow evening at 8:15 p.m. Eastern Time Tyler Mahle will take the mound against Alec Mills.
