indiana-fan-500x430 Here's some HUGE breaking news: according to the Indianapolis Business Journal's Anthony Schoettle, the Kentucky/Indiana rivalry may be on its way back--as soon as next season. UK Deputy AD DeWayne Peevy confirmed to the IBJ there have recently been "general" discussions between the two sides about renewing the series:
“The [Kentucky and IU] basketball staffs have had some general discussion about playing. Up to this point, no contests have been scheduled," UK Deputy Athletic Director DeWayne Peevy told IBJ this week.
IU AD Fred Glass said he hopes the deal can get done in time for the upcoming season--which means it would have to be finalized in the next 90 days. Of course, the one sticking point is where the games will be played. Glass told the IBJ that IU is now willing to play SOME of the games at Lucas Oil Stadium, but would also like to play some in Assembly Hall in Bloomington. In the past, John Calipari and Mitch Barnhart have refused to return to Bloomington after the Hoosiers upset the Cats in 2011 and the dangerous court storm that took place afterwards. Since then, Calipari has reiterated that he prefers neutral site non-conference games to home-and-home series, but UK did agree to a home-and-home series with UCLA starting this season. Has the time come to compromise? [IBJ] (H/t ye olde Les Johns)
