“The individuals who are making the decision as to whether Mark Stoops will be retained are meeting as we speak and have been for a lot of the evening,” Jones reported Sunday evening. “When the meeting started there was no final decision yet.”

Time is of the essence, though, with recruiting and transfer portal at the forefront of everyone’s minds. This isn’t something that can drag too far into the week — or much into Monday, for that matter.

If parties involved have it their way, this all gets solved tonight.

“Everyone involved does know however that Signing Day is Wednesday,” Jones said, “and most want a final resolution one way or the other tonight.”

Maybe a possible deadline? The University Athletics Committee Meeting, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET in Lexington. That has been on the docket for weeks now, but certainly shakes things up with Mitch Barnhart and Marc Hill both set to talk.

“It’s also worth noting that there is a normally scheduled Board of Trustees meeting tomorrow at UK,” Jones continued. “One would think they have to have a decision by then.”
