Rex Chapman FaceTimed with Charles Barkley during the Kentucky game
Saturday night featured two legendary announcers with Charles Barkley and Dick Vitale teaming up for the first time to call a college basketball game. As if Barkley didn’t get enough time talking in front of a camera, Kentucky legend Rex Chapman FaceTimed the Round Mound of Rebound during the game to talk about it. LEX18’s Jennifer Palumbo was there to capture part of the exchange.
It is hard to make out exactly what Chapman is saying, but considering Barkley clearly responds, “Hey, Indiana stinks also too,” it is fair to assume that, like most Kentucky fans, Rex’s expectations of this year’s team aren’t all that high, and he isn’t loving what he is seeing.
It is hard to know exactly when this conversation took place, but the shooting woes for both teams had already been on display. “It’s ugly, it’s ugly,” Barkley told Chapman, who seemed to nod along in agreement.

Both Chapman and Barkley lived in Phoenix for several years (Barkley still resides there), so the two likely know each other well from their time in the desert. Still, it is quite the flex to be able to FaceTime a Kentucky legend while calling their game, and vice versa.
Barkley called getting the opportunity to call a game with Dick Vitale, “One of the coolest moments of his life,” so I wonder where he ranked getting to FaceTime with Rex Chapman. Even if the exchange wasn’t a mutual gushing over how good Kentucky is, it was still a cool moment between two basketball icons.
