Kentucky recorded a significant recruiting win on Friday evening when class of 2025 quarterback Stone Saunders committed to the Wildcats. In a few short months, new offensive coordinator Liam Coen has landed a pair of significant high school quarterback prospects in two separate classes. Now those quarterbacks can help UK on the recruiting trail.

Saunders is already hard at work.

Alabama commit Rico Scott is the No. 259 ranked player in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. The top-50 receiver prospect is high school teammates with Saunders at Harrisburg (Pa.) Bishop McDevitt. Last season, Scott reeled in 66 receptions for 1,184 yards and 18 touchdowns. Despite being a Crimson Tide commit since April, Saunders is making a pitch for Kentucky.

At wide receiver in the 2024 high school cycle, Kentucky has a commitment from Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s Prep senior David Washington Jr., but that is the only one. Wideout is a position of need for the Wildcats with only eight scholarship wide receivers on the roster currently. Kentucky has zeroed in on Pahokee (Fla.) High product Hardley Gilmore who has a decision scheduled for the end of the month. However, some new targets need to emerge.

Rico Scott would be quite the pull for the Wildcats. Will UK be able to get the spatula out? The goal right now should be to get Scott on campus this summer for an official visit. Until that happens, this seems unlikely but never say never in college football recruiting.

Having Stone Saunders in Rico Scott’s ear all season at Bishop McDevitt can’t hurt Kentucky’s chances. The Wildcats currently have 15 commitments in the class of 2024 and will be looking to close strong on some recruitments in the fall. Scott could become a key target for the program over the next few months.

Recruiting never stops.
