Former UK great Scott Padgett has a new job in college basketball as an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico. Padgett was announced as the new addition to the Lobos staff where he will coach under fourth-year head coach Paul Weir. Weir said of his new assistant, "Scott comes to us at the perfect time. His experiences both as a player and a coach are terrific opportunities for myself, our staff and our players to learn from as we continue to grow forward." Padgett said, “I am very excited to join The University of New Mexico basketball program! I am looking forward to helping impact the players and university in a positive way both on and off the court. I want to thank Coach Weir for the opportunity to learn from him and contribute to the great University of New Mexico basketball tradition.” Prior to Padgett's new gig in the desert, he was on the sideline at Samford University for eight seasons. He was hired as a Samford assistant in 2012, then took over as head coach when his boss, Bennie Seltzer, was let go in 2014. Padgett held the Bulldogs' head coaching position for the last six years until this past March when he was dismissed following a 10-23 record for the season and an 84–115 record overall.
