Sean Woods named La Familia's head coach for 2025 TBT

An Unforgettable is taking the reins to lead La Familia to the 2025 The Basketball Tournament (TBT) crown. Kentucky’s alumni team just announced that Sean Woods will be the head coach for this year’s event. Woods, an assistant coach on last year’s inaugural squad, was recently named the head coach at Scott County High School in Georgetown.

“I feel honored and privileged to be a part of La Familia for the second year,” said head coach Sean Woods. “After last year’s terrific experience, I’m grateful that [La Familia general manager] Twany Beckham has asked me to be the head coach. We’re looking forward to an even bigger and better experience than we did last summer. With the roster Twany has assembled, I’m very confident that we have a great chance of winning TBT and will continue to uphold Wildcat pride over the summer.”

Woods was a member of Rick Pitino’s Unforgettable squads at Kentucky, playing for the Cats from 1988-92. He is fifth in school history with 482 assists, along with 794 career points. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame back in its historic 2005 charter class consisting of 88 individuals who had previously had their jersey retired. Woods has over 20 years of coaching experience, including head coaching stints at Mississippi Valley State, Morehead State, and, most recently,y Southern University.

Woods will oversee a La Familia roster that currently includes Willie Cauley-Stein, Doron Lamb, DeAndre Liggins, Aaron Harrison, and Andrew Harrison. La Familia will host the Lexington regional at Memorial Coliseum July 18-22. Last year, the squad won the Lexington regional and made it all the way to the semifinals, with Tyler Ulis serving as head coach and Woods as one of the assistants.

The winner of the Lexington Regional will advance to TBT’s quarterfinals on July 29. The semifinals will be held on July 31, and TBT’s $1 million championship will be played on Aug. 3. Tickets for the Lexington Regional are now on sale at TBTHoops.com/tickets.
