SEC Commissioner doesn't see spring football as a solution

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey made an appearance on ESPN last night and in that appearance he sounded very uninterested in pushing college football off until the spring.
“Here’s the problem I see with the spring right now,” Sankey told College Football Live. “We’ve kept that on the list of alternatives, but I’ve not had the explanation of how we’ll be assured some reality, come spring, that will be better than the fall.
“In fact as you look at cold and flu season which people have talked about, the deeper you go, the more problematic that can be. And we’re all in this world of unpredictability, we are building the bridge as we cross the river, and writing the instructional manual as we do so.”
Sankey noted that other conferences are looking to the spring as the solution, but for the SEC, the plan is to play football in some form in the fall.
“I think our focus properly is what can we achieve in the fall; and to the extent that doesn’t become possible to support in a healthy way, we’d have to pivot and we’ll be prepared to pivot quickly,” Sankey said. “But we want to focus right now on how we support healthy activity in the next few months.”
