Another weekend of SEC football down, folks. Though Saturday’s slate of games was short, there’s still plenty to talk about. Let’s get to it.

Missouri at Vanderbilt

I know you’re shocked, but Vandy lost again. The Commodores have now lost their fourth straight game after falling 37-28 to Missouri yesterday in Nashville.

Mizzou running back Tyler Badie had a big day for the Tigers. He ended the game with two rushing touchdowns and 294 yards of total offense. His 254 rushing yard performance yesterday was the third-best in all of college football. He was making the Vandy defense look absolutely silly, to say the least.

Despite the loss, Vandy did manage to show some fight. After falling behind 10-0 in the first quarter, an interception at the Commodores’ 2-yard-line led to a Vandy touchdown. After, they even managed to take a slim 14-10 lead. It was short-lived, though. The Tigers scored in the final seconds of the half, and wouldn’t trail again. It was Vandy’s 18th SEC loss in a row.

No. 1 Georgia at Florida

From one very bad team to one very good team–the Georgia Bulldogs. They managed to stay perfect yesterday in Gainesville with a 34-7 win over the Gators. UGA’s win plus Kentucky’s loss in Starkville allowed the Bulldogs to clinch the SEC Eastern Division.

As usual, Georgia’s defense was phenomenal. Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson got his first start of the season over Emory Jones, who has been known to struggle himself with turnovers. Unfortunately for the Gators, the switch didn’t much matter. Richardson turned the ball over three times.

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett struggled a bit. He was 10 for 19 on the day for 161 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Luckily for the ‘Dawgs, the running game was able to pick up the slack. Zamir White had 105 yards and a touchdown of his own on 14 carries. It was the first 100-yard rushing game of the season for a Georgia player.

No. 10 Ole Miss at No. 18 Auburn

It was a big night for the Auburn Tigers. They handed No. 10 Ole Miss their second loss of the season with a 31-20 victory at home last night. It was Auburn’s first win over a top-10 opponent in Jordan-Hare Stadium since their win over Alabama in the 2019 Iron Bowl.

Tiger quarterback Bo Nix looked good in the win. He completed 22 of 30 passes, ending the game with 276 yards and a touchdown. It wouldn’t stop there, though. He added 30 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, as well.

Ole Miss star quarterback Matt Corral left the game temporarily due to an apparent ankle injury. Though he was able to return to the field, he couldn’t quite find the offensive groove he would have liked. He completed 21 of 37 passes for 289 yards and threw an interception.

No. 12 Kentucky at Mississippi State

I was dreading this part, but here I go. The ‘Cats are now 6-2 on the season after an embarrassing showing in Starkville last night, falling 31-17 to the unranked Bulldogs.

It was almost like the perfect storm for Kentucky, who certainly did not look good. The ‘Dawgs intercepted quarterback Will Levis three times in the game, and recovered a Chris Rodriguez fumble. Levis was just 17 of 28 for 150 yards and a touchdown.

Bulldog quarterback Will Rogers, on the other hand, was absolutely incredible. The sophomore from Brandon, Mississippi completed 36 of his 39 passes–that is 92% accuracy for those of you who don’t like math (like me). That was an SEC record for any game with 30-plus attempts. The Bulldogs scored 14 points off of Kentucky’s four turnovers.

Mississippi State’s defense did a nice job of locking up the rest of the Wildcat offense as well. The ‘Cats finished with only 216 yards of total offense. Wan’Dale Robinson led with 79 receiving yards on nine receptions. Josh Ali started things off with an explosive 74-yard punt return for a touchdown, giving Kentucky an early lead. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long.

Nick Roush has more on the game if you so desire. On to Tennessee.
