Kentucky opened the game at South Carolina with a bang. Running back Seth McGowan toted the rock three times for 42 yards on the opening drive and rushed into the end zone to give the Wildcats an early 7-0 lead.

McGowan has quickly created a reputation as a hard runner. He’s also known to make some moves after catching the ball, too. It’s now clear that throwing the football is not in his repertoire.

To celebrate the score, McGowan threw the football. It did not hit the turf or the hedges in the end zone. He pelted a South Carolina fan.

“That was completely my fault,” the running back said after the game.

“I would like to apologize to the fan that the ball connected with. I tried to throw it at the ground, and in a high-energy moment, it kind of slipped out, came out wrong. Absolutely unacceptable, and that’s something that won’t happen again.”

McGowan was not penalized for throwing the football. In addition to his statement, he shared another written apology on social media.

I think McGowan will be able to get in touch with the South Carolina fan who got hit. LaNorris Sellers said it was his grandfather who took the shot from the Kentucky running back in the end zone. McGowan was Kentucky’s brightest star in an otherwise bad game, rushing for 112 yards on 17 carries, while Sellers lit up the Cats. He completed 11-14 passes for 153 yards and tallied 98 non-sack rushing yards.
