John Calipari Discusses Kentucky's 79-62 Loss To South Carolina

Former Kentucky lead guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has had quite the basketball journey since committing to Kentucky. The former four-star recruit was one of the most unheralded recruits in the class signed by John Calipari in the class of 2017, but that did not stop the Canada native from becoming an impact player in college. That has continued in the NBA.

In year five, the former No. 11 overall pick is posting 31.1 points per game on .493/.329/.890 shooting splits to go along with 5.6 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 2.1 steals. The Oklahoma City Thunder currently sit atop the Western Conference standings largely due to Gilgeous-Alexander’s high-level play.

That play was awarded on Thursday. The former All-SEC performer in his only year at Kentucky is now an NBA All-Star.

For the second year in a row, SGA will be participating in the All-Star weekend. Last season, the guard earned first-team All-NBA honors and will be one of the top players to hit Indianapolis on All-Star weekend which culminates with the All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 18.

In his only season at Kentucky, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander posted 14.4 points per game on .485/.404/.817 shooting splits to go along with 4.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.6 steals. The Wildcats ended that 2017-18 season with an SEC Tournament title and a Sweet 16 appearance. In the NBA, Gilgeous-Alexander has quickly become one of Kentucky’s top producers. Later this spring, we should see SGA go on his first deep playoff run, but first, he will be competing in the All-Star Game in just a few short weeks.
