Shively mayor falls asleep in White Castle drive-thru, crashes car
A late-night White Castle run went very wrong in the suburbs of Louisville on Tuesday. Beverly Chester-Burton, the mayor of Shively, was arrested for driving under the influence after falling asleep in the White Castle drive-thru and then crashing her car in a nearby parking lot.
Witnesses told police they knocked on Chester-Burton’s window to wake her up in the drive-thru. Once awake, she hit the accelerator, which she claims got stuck, and struck the back of a truck before crashing into a utility pole. Police came to the scene to find Chester-Burton standing outside her silver Cadillac, which had serious front-end damage. She told police she’d had two martinis with dinner, first claiming it was at 5 p.m. and then later saying it was at 9 p.m. She failed numerous field sobriety tests and also “failed to follow instructions as given even after being instructed multiple times,” police said. She was charged with a DUI and released from jail Wednesday morning.
