Short and Insufficient Profile: David Jones

by:Broseph07/25/08
OK, so, during the dragging, sweaty, uncomfortable months of summer, we flippantly mentioned that we would be profiling every player on the team. It will only be fun and worthwhile, we decided, if we were both informative AND funny. Well, it would be really fun if we were drunk the entire time, but that's neither here nor there. Thus, for these ten weeks leading up to the UL game, we will have at least one profile a day. We hope you enjoy these as much as we enjoyed the idea of doing them, but not the actual task. Oh, and we see the egregious "that's what she said" in the headline. We'd also like to use this italicized space to apologize to the families of the players whose last names end in 'A' or 'B' because these early ones might suck a little. DJ Boring, Obligatory Vitals Height--5'10" Weight--185 40--4.38 Year--SR Position--Cornerback Hometown--Red Jacket, WV (Belfry) Unfair comparison to NFL-er: David Jones.  He's a corner and has the same name.  Next question. Most interesting fact from his media guide bio: Was the MVP for the Kentucky-Tennessee high school all-star game (2005) in which he returned a kickoff 98-yards for a score, had an INT and a fumble recovery...and we won! Something we made up about him: An amazing athlete, during one pass play in the spring, he defended himself.  It ended up being a slant to Dicky Lyons. Items of legitimate interest: As a senior at Belfry, rushed 170 times for 1,805 yards and 29 touchdowns...yikes.  Probably had one of the most memorable runs in recent history when he covered 200 yards while making a seven-yard gain on what was nothing less than a busted reverse in the Swamp!  Also made a HUGE stop in the third OT on Tennessee's two-point conversion attempt.  Named to the SEC All-Freshman team by the coaches.  Outlook for 2008, based on light research by our minions: He is ranked in his NFL Scout profile as the 97th best senior corner.  He is in the mix with EJ Adams and Shomari Moore as guys trying to compete with Warford for the starting CB job opposite Lindley.
