Skyy Clark will play final year of high school at Montverde Academy

Skyy Clark remains committed to the Kentucky Wildcats, but he’ll finish his high school career down in Florida.

On Wednesday, Jason Jordan of Sports Illustrated reported that Clark, a 5-star point guard from the class of 2022, will transfer high schools to play out his senior year at the prestigious Montverde Academy. Clark previously played at Ensworth High School located in Nashville, TN before shutting down his junior season back in January due to COVID-19 concerns. There have been rumblings since March that Clark would eventually transfer to a high-level prep school, it was just a matter of which program that would be.

Clark, who is listed at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, is ranked as the No. 12 overall player from his class by 247 Sports and the second-best point guard. He initially committed to the ‘Cats back in October and was named as one of the few underclassmen to make Sports Illustrated’s All-American roster this past season.

Montverde has developed some of the nation’s top players over the last several years. Most notably, the school has helped produce the likes of Joel Embiid, Cade Cunningham, R.J. Barrett, Ben Simmons, and D’Angelo Russell along with former Kentucky players such as Dakari Johnson. Currently, one of the top overall players from the class of 2022 and a major UK target, Jalen Duren, is a member of Montverde, which captured its fifth GEICO Nationals championship back in early April.

“Montverde is the best place to push me and prepare me for the next level,” Clark said, according to SI. “It’s an elite basketball school, but it’s an elite academic school. That means a lot to me and my family. I’m looking forward to learning under Coach (Kevin) Boyle and Coach Rae (Miller). I feel like my game is gonna grow a lot in this last year.”

Clark’s younger brother, ZZ, who is a member of the 2024 class and is considered a rising prospect in his own right, will also transfer to Montverde.

This will technically be Skyy’s fourth high school, as he originally started out at Heritage Christian over in California before transferring to Brentwood Academy (which is also based out of Tennessee, although he never played a game with them), then to nearby Ensworth, and now to Montverde. He’s long been considered as a potential reclassification target to the class of 2021, but that is no longer the case and he will stick in 2022 with the intention of moving to Lexington next summer.

Despite the loss of assistant coach Joel Justus to Arizona State, who was Clark’s lead recruiter, he remains heavily committed to Kentucky and is in constant communication with new staff members Orlando Antigua and Ron “Chin” Coleman.

Considering Montverde possesses one of the most talented collections of high school hoopers in the world, this should help put Clark on the national stage more often, especially when it comes time for the postseason. Montverde regularly has games airing on ESPN throughout the year and that should be no different this season as they now have five of the top 30 players from the class of 2022.
