The mascot controversy at Lexington's new Frederick Douglass High School will not die. The outcry over the announcement of the Stallion mascot, which has since been removed, made national news this week, and the school's principal, Lester Diaz, hasn't gotten any sleep during what was to be an exciting week for him and his new school.
Well I am here today to settle this once and for all with the perfect solution to the problem. Instead of waiting for a student poll to determine the school's new mascot, why not embrace the next best thing right now and put this whole overblown scandal behind us?
Let me introduce to you...
The Frederick Douglass Scallions.
Boom. It's perfect. It's unique. It's one-of-a-kind. All that apparel and signage that has already been produced and printed, simply change one letter and all is well. It is a subtle, cost-efficient change to the original plan and it is gender neutral.
