It’s January, you know what that means! It’s time for district play in the Bluegrass. All 19 teams from Region 11 will battle their counterparts within Districts 41, 42, 43 and 44 over the next few weeks.

Here’s how each team has fared since the beginning of the season:

District 41

Frankfort (7-7) — Frankfort is coming off a double-overtime thrilling victory over Bluegrass United (Lexington) 77-75 on Dec. 30 and has won their last three overall. They find themselves at .500 entering 2022.

Frankfort Christian (1-9) — Starting the season out 0-8, Frankfort Christian finally found themselves in the winner’s column versus Jackson City in dominant fashion 60-21.

Franklin County (4-8) —The Flyers began the season a perfect 4-0 and have since lost eight straight. Despite this, Franklin County currently sits at 1-0 in district play after taking down Frankfort Christian 88-43 in mid-December.

Great Crossing (8-3) — Great Crossing is off to their best start in program history thanks to the play of Vince Dawson and 6-foot-10 freshman Malachi Moreno, who averages nearly 15 rebounds per game this season.

Western Hills (5-8) — The Wolverines most recently took part in the Central Bank Jim Rose Classic at LCA, dropping games to LCA and Lloyd Memorial while defeating East Jessamine by 40 points.

District 42

Bryan Station (4-6) — Despite being under .500, the Defenders are 1-0 in district play, having defeated Scott County 67-61 last month. Their first six games were against Region 11 opponents, going 2-4 in those six while defeating Frederick Douglass and the aforementioned Scott County.

Frederick Douglass (4-7) — From Region 11 runner up in 2020-21 to one of the biggest drops in all of Kentucky in the span of one offseason, the Broncos are still searching for their identity heading into district play.

Henry Clay (11-2) — The Blue Devils have lost two of their last three games thanks to the level of completion played over the last week. They started the season off 10-0 and defeated teams by a 22-point margin on average thanks to the play of Aziel Blackwell.

Sayre (6-6) — The Spartans boast Region 11’s top scorer in Zander Collett, who averages 22.9 points per game. He’s single-handedly been the driving force behind their .500 record. If they want any hope of taking down Henry Clay for district favorite, others will have to step up.

Scott County (4-9) — After a respectable 4-5 start to the season, the Cardinals have dropped their last four games, most recently to Taylor County in overtime 64-60.

District 43

Lafayette (1-12) — After losing their first 12 games of the season, the Generals finally came out on top against Webster County 81-79 in overtime. Logan Taylor dropped 20 points on 7-12 shooing in the victory.

Lexington Catholic (11-3) — If you were to rank the teams in Region 11, LexCath would capstone many of those lists. Despite this, the Knights hosted the White, Greer & Maggard Holiday Classic and were tested multiple times.

They defeated McCreary Central (57-53) and Simon Kenton (51-43), but were defeated by Ballard (75-65) in the semi-finals and then Reed Sheppard and North Laurel (81-78) in the consolation bracket finals.

Lexington Christian Academy (4-10) — The Eagles have won their last two games against Beechwood and Western Hills, respectively. Before hand, their 2-10 start earned them a spot at the bottom of the district.

Dunbar (5-6) — A preseason favorite to win the region and district, a tough schedule has hindered head coach Murray Garvin’s first 11 games at the helm of the Dunbar program. With district play looming, there’s a chance they can turn it around come postseason.

Tates Creek (7-4) — The Commodores are coming off to one of their best starts in recent memory thanks to the play of Cobi Commodore, Eric Hackett and the ever-changing fresh-body rotation that often time overwhelms their opposition.

District 44

Berea (1-10) — Berea was forced to cancel their first three games of 2021 due to COVID-19 inside their program. They proceeded to drop their next four games before defeating Somerset Christian School 54-51 on Dec. 22 and have yet to claim victory since. They sit near the bottom of Region 11 and their respective district.

Madison Central (7-4) — Despite only playing a five-man rotation due to various reasons, the Indians have emerged as one of the favorites to make the Sweet 16 come March.

Trey Skaggs, Jayden West, Will Hardin, Jaylen Davis and Robby Todd all bring something different to each game and any player can hurt the opposition on any given night. They recently tested Kentucky’s No. 1 team in Ballard last week and lost 55-54 against a tough Woodford County team.

Madison Southern (9-4) —The Eagles’ only losses this season have come to quality opponents; Madison Central, Woodford County, Henry Clay and Marshall County—all four will hold their own in their respective districts.

Model (3-8) —Model began the season dropping eight of their first nine games. They’re currently on a two-game winning streak defeating Trinity Christian and Berea. The Berea victory gives them a 1-0 record in district play.
