Sydney McLaughlin, Keni Harrison begin quest for Olympic gold tonight

Got plans tonight? Cancel ’em or set the DVR. Several former Kentucky track stars, including Sydney McLaughlin and Keni Harrison, begin their quests for Olympic gold in primetime on NBC.

Sydney McLaughlin will compete in heat three of the 400m hurdles at 8:16 p.m. ET. She set the world record in the event at the U.S. Olympic Trials in June. Fellow former Kentucky Wildcat Leah Nugent will be in the lane next to McLaughlin representing Jamaica. NBC will air the qualifying heats beginning at 8 p.m. ET. You can also watch via live stream. The semifinals of the 400m hurdles is Monday morning and the finals Tuesday night.

At 9:53 p.m. ET, Keni Harrison will run in heat two of the 100m hurdles, which she set the world record in back in 2016. Devynne Charlton, a current volunteer assistant coach with Kentucky Track and Field, will represent the Bahamas in heat three (10:01 p.m. ET). Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who was at UK from 2015-17, will compete for Puerto Rico in heat five (10:17 p.m. ET). NBC will air the qualifying heats of the 100m hurdles around 10 p.m., but you can see every heat starting at 9:45 p.m. via live stream. The semifinals and finals of the 100m hurdles take place on Sunday.

Javianne Oliver qualifies for 100m dash semifinals

Earlier today in Tokyo, Team USA’s Javianne Oliver (UK 2015-17) qualified for the semifinals of the 100m dash, finishing in a time of 11.15 seconds. Oliver ran in the third heat out of seven and finished second in her heat, with the top three times per heat qualifying for semifinals. She ran the 16th-fastest time out of all athletes in the heats. Oliver will run in semifinal two of the 100m dash at approximately 6:23 a.m. ET tomorrow (live stream).

Mary Tucker goes for gold in Three-Position Smallbore

Shooting more your speed? Kentucky rifle star Mary Tucker will compete in the women’s three-position smallbore late tonight. The qualifiers begin at 11 p.m. ET and the finals take place at 2 a.m. ET (live stream). Earlier this week, Tucker and her Team USA shooting partner Lucas Kozeniesky earned silver in the mixed air rifle competition. Tucker won gold in smallbore at the USA Shooting Junior Olympic Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in May.
