Terrence Clarke's AAU team delivers touching tribute in former Wildcat’s honor

Following the tragic loss of Terrence Clarke this week, the Kentucky guard’s former AAU program honored his life during the team’s appearance in the MADE Hoops Midwest Mania event in Indianapolis on Saturday.

Expressions Elite, a Nike EYBL program out of Clarke’s hometown of Boston, MA, took the floor in an early morning matchup on Saturday. Prior to tipoff, the team honored Clarke with a moment of silence and held up the former Wildcat’s number, 5, in remembrance of their former player, teammate and friend. The program also added Clarke to the roster as an honorary player for the weekend.

Clarke passed away in a car accident in Los Angeles on Thursday. He was just 19 years old.

“I am absolutely gutted and sick tonight,” Kentucky head coach John Calipari said in a statement Thursday evening. “A young person who we all love has just lost his life too soon, one with all of his dreams and hopes ahead of him. Terrence Clarke was a beautiful kid, someone who owned the room with his personality, smile and joy. People gravitated to him, and to hear we have lost him is just hard for all of us to comprehend right now. We are all in shock.

“Terrence’s teammates and brothers loved him and are absolutely devastated. They know we are here for them for whatever they need. … This will be a difficult period for all those who know and love Terrence, and I would ask that everyone take a moment tonight to say a prayer for Terrence and his family. May he rest in peace.”

Clarke’s teammates held a candlelight vigil in the former Kentucky guard’s honor outside the Wildcat Coal Lodge on Friday, with several players delivering powerful comments about his life and the memories they shared together in Lexington.
