Texas Defensive Lineman Ben Duncum Commits to Kentucky

Is Texas the new Ohio? Kentucky scored another commitment on Wednesday when Ben Duncum pledged his allegiance to Big Blue Nation.
Duncum announced his decision just a few days after he made a trip to Lexington for an official visit. The Wildcats beat out Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and Wisconsin for the defensive lineman’s services.
A 6-foot-5, 250-pound athlete, Duncum plays high school football for a prolific powerhouse, Austin (Tx.) Lake Travis. He’s a three-star talent, ranked by Rivals as the No. 85 EDGE in the 2026 recruiting class.
Recruiting the state of Texas is not something Kentucky football fans are accustomed to. There may have been a player here or there over the years, like QB Ryan Mossakowski or WR TV Williams, but the Mark Stoops’ coaching staff has not logged frequent flyer miles to the Lone Star State. That is changing this year. Duncum is Kentucky’s third commitment from Texas, joining WR Davis McCray and CB Isaiah McMillan.

Duncum has the ideal length and athleticism to play in the trenches in Kentucky’s 3-4 defense. He’s just what they’re looking for in defensive ends. Even though he’s taller than most of his competition, he plays with good pad level and is agile within the chaos at the line of scrimmage. Kentucky picked up a solid recruiting win over some programs that produce talented defensive players.
