The first Keeneland-Kentucky football daily double is on the table when Texas makes its first trip to Lexington as a member of the SEC.

Kentucky and Texas will play under the lights at Kroger Field. When exactly? That’s a great question. The fine folks in Birmingham weren’t ready to make a decision just yet. The game is flexed for either 7 PM ET on ESPN or 7:45 PM ET on the SEC Network. The Red River result will probably determine when and where the Wildcats are playing. A Texas win most likely means ESPN, with a loss regulating the game to the SEC Network.

The Horns were the preseason No. 1 team in the AP Poll. They are unranked this week after losing their second game of the season, a 29-21 defeat at Florida.

Arch Manning was the Prince that was Promised, the most hyped SEC football player in a generation. It’s not that he just hasn’t lived up to the hype; Manning has been pretty bad. In two games on the road against Power Conference competition, Manning is 33-59 (55%) for 433 yards, 3 TDs, and 3 INTs. He was sacked six times in the loss at The Swamp.

Texas has another mighty challenge before traveling to Lexington. This weekend is Red River Saturday at the Texas State Fair. Oklahoma may not have QB John Mateer for the matchup.

Kentucky and Texas have only played twice. The Wildcats lost the season-opener in Austin back in 1951, and fell at DKR in 2024 by a final score of 31-14. After trailing by three scores at halftime, Cutter Boley entered the game and performed exceptionally well. The true freshman couldn’t punch it into the end zone, but made some big-time throws against one of the best defenses in college football, completing 10-18 passes for 160 yards.

Kentucky has only won two of its last 16 SEC games, including eight straight losses. Big Blue Nation is starving for an SEC win. Hopefully, fireworks will fly when the Horns play at Kentucky for the very first time.
