TGIF Morning Notes and Updates

by:Anthony Wireman02/26/10
boogie The morning after a conference revenge victory is sweet, but it will soon be time to shift all efforts towards Knoxville. Coach Cal expressed great concern following the game last night about the strain of ending a late Thursday night game and then finding focus for a noon game on Saturday. There are rumors floating around that Tennessee's Wayne Chism is still banged up and may not be 100% tomorrow. I have not found anything definitive stating that he will or will not play, but it is something worth keeping an eye on. I expect him to play until I find out differently, but if he is less than normal, it greatly damages Tennessee's hopes of springing an upset. Even without Chism, we all know that Knoxville offers a tough road challenge, particularly considering the quick turnaround for the Cats. We will have much more on the Tennessee game coming soon. Some Friday morning notes/updates: - It was acknowledged last night after the game that a mistake was made when UKAthletics.com stated that the Cats were playing for a share of the SEC title last night. A Vanderbilt loss combined with a UK win would have sealed the deal, but unfortunately the Commodores managed to defeat Georgia 96-94 in OT. That means Kentucky will be playing for a share of their 44th title tomorrow. - UK plays at Tennessee tomorrow, which we know will be a tough game. How about the game at Georgia? The Bulldogs were about 40 seconds away from upsetting Vandy in Nashville last night.  Kentucky cannot sleep on Georgia or it will be upset city. - Have I told you lately that DeMarcus Cousins is the best big man around? He is now averaging 16.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and what has to be close to an all-time single season record for the most And 1's in the history of college basketball. - The KSR regulars witnessed the end of the nation's longest winning streak last night in Morehead. The Eagles (20-9) sent Murray State (26-4) home with a 70-65 loss. I know I am a little biased, but let me be the first (person in the history of this site) to say: Fight, Fight, Fight for Morehead. Fight on, varsity. Ever onward marching To our victory. We're gonna Fight, Fight, Fight for Morehead. Colors gold and blue. Our hopes on you we're pinning whether losing or winning. Go, you Eagles and fight, fight, fight. - Matt and the guys have also encountered a blizzard and are changing plans for their road trip - Here are a few pictures I snapped at Rupp Arena last night - It's been a tough week for ESPN's Scott Van Pelt; that's just one of those words that you can't really say on ESPN - I'm not encouraging sports betting, but here are the odds to win the John Wooden Award (via TheSpread.com): John Wall ( Kentucky) 6/5     Evan Turner ( Ohio State) 7/4     Scottie Reynolds (Villanova) 6/1     Wesley Johnson ( Syracuse) 12/1     Jon Scheyer (Duke) 12/1     Sherron Collins ( Kansas) 12/1     Luke Harangody (Notre Dame) 14/1     Damion James ( Texas) 15/1     Cole Aldrich ( Kansas) 18/1 Field (Any Other Player) 7/1
