The Brow Battle

by:Ashley Scoby07/08/12
I have to pay how much??   A TIME blog story, as well as a TMZ article, dropped recently talking about Anthony Davis’ trademark battle for his “brow” slogans. According to the TIME article, Blue Zone owner Reid Coffman claims he already owns the trademark to “Fear the Brow.”  He told TMZ (for whatever reason) that he would only be willing to sell the rights for a high price.  Coffman believes that if someone like Nike picked up the trademark rights, he could make “millions,” which is probably true. It’s looking like Davis will either have to pay up to Coffman or begin a legal battle for the rights.  I am far from a legal expert or a copyright expert, but it seems fair to me that Davis wouldn’t have to pay a boatload of money for the rights to phrases that wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for his face.  But on the other hand, if Coffman was indeed the first guy to make up the “brow” phrases, I could see that side of it too. What do you say, BBN?  Should Davis have to pay up for the rights, or should he be given preference since it’s his brow?    As always, you can follow me on Twitter @AshleyScoby
