The Funkhouser Oscar After Party

I hope you were able to catch the Oscars and our live blog during the show! If not, don’t worry! I’m recapping all the important moments so you’ll be caught up for all of today’s water cooler chit-chat.

The Talking Points

1. Chris Rock’s Monologue He started the night so strong with his monologue that brought as many laughs as there were awkward silences. His most memorable/controversial lines were:                                                                                          – “I thought about quitting. But then I thought, ‘They’re not going to cancel the Oscars cuz i quit. And the last thing I need is to lose another job to Kevin Hart.”                          – [On why black people didn’t protest in the Oscars in the 1960’s] Because we had real things to protest at the time.] We were too busy being lynched to care about Best Cinematography.”                                                                                                                            – [On Jada Pinkett-Smith boycotting the Oscars] Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna‘s panties. 2. The Best Looks The Oscars always bring out the most daring gowns for the grand finale of awards season. Here were my favorite looks, but you can decide for yourself. 
3. Vice President Joe Biden stopped by! Entrance music: Indiana Jones. Introducing: “his friend” Lady Gaga’s show stopping musical performance of “Til It Happens To You.” She ended up losing Best Original Song to Sam Smith with his James Bond theme, Spectre.
4. Chris Rock Interviews Moviegoers in Compton about Oscar Films Not his first time with this bit, but it still delivers. Watch it here.
5. And the winner goes to… Leonardo DiCaprio, Finally! and other winners After 22 years since his first nomination and 5 total, Leo finally got his statue for The Revenant-only had to eat a bison heart, get frostbite, and lay in a horse carcass to do so, but hey, a win is a win. Big Short won Best Adapted Screenplay; Alejandro Innaritu won his 4th Oscar for directing The Revenant and became the first director to win two in a row (last year was Birdman); Alicia Vikander won Best Supporting Actress for The Danish Girl; Best Supporting Actor went to Mark Rylance for Bridge of Spies; Best Actress for a Leading Role went to Brie Larson for Room; Spotlight wins for Best Picture!
