The KSR P.H.B. - Round One - Digger Phelps vs. Andy Katz

by: Hunter Campbell03/09/09@HunterCampbell
John Feinstein crushed Bob Knight in the voting from last week, sending the General marching back to his quaint little office/film room at ESPN and Feinstein on to face the winner of today's all-ESPN matchup. Your featured comment: from chicken_little: Feinstein seems to be delusional, and it’s hard to hate people who have no touch with reality but since he’s a Duke fan I’ll make an exception. Now for today's hating, courtesy of the World Wide Leader. (3) Digger Phelps - If this contest were based on longevity and commitment to douchitude, Phelps would be a lock as a final four candidate. Alas, it's about quality and not quantity, but Digger will still be a tough out. He hated Kentucky as we routinely kicked his tail for roughly two decades and, not to let a little thing like objectivity get in the way, his disdain for Kentucky hoops followed him to ESPN. Famously picking Kentucky to lose every step of the way in the title run of 1998, Phelps demonstrated the hard-hitting analytical skills that make him one of the best in the business. Over the last few seasons, Digger has managed to find a way to demonstrate the idiocy that has been apparent to Kentucky fans for decades to the general public. His medium? The highlighter-tie combo. Like a Smirnoff Ice, Phelps' highlighter does us the service of immediately removing all doubt as to whether he is indeed worthy of our detestment. A flourescent harbinger of poor analysis and self-promotion, the highlighter does do something Phelps himself has yet to accomplish. Namely, tell us something substantive, even though it's just that the guy holding it is a moron. (6) Andy Katz - Just when you thought there was too much ignorance to be contained in one post, Andy Katz throws a gallon of grease on his hair every day the wheels to keep the train moving. He's spent a lot of his time at ESPN jabbing at Kentucky, even taking what was essentially a non story (Kentucky's buyout of the UMass game) and making it front page of ESPN news. His on-air persona has been equally irritating, particularly during the coaching search and Donovan fiasco, although that only proves he received the ESPN memo outlining the 'Evil Kentucky' and 'Don't do it Donovan!' company policy that was in place at the time. At least he was brave enough to face the buzzsaw that is (was? will be?) Matt Jones on the radio, albeit after canceling roughly 37 times. We can only hope he'll join us soon on the liveblog to discuss how he feels about his chances of bringing home the title in the PHB. Vote in the poll and comment in the comments. Obviously.
