Wan’Dale Robinson broke Air Raid records at Kentucky. Let me say that again. In one season, on a Mark Stoops football team, he broke receiving records that were set when Tim Couch was the quarterback. That takes a special, special talent.

The New York Football Giants kept that special talent bottled up for far too long. Some of it was out of their hands. Daniel Jones was terrible, and Wan’Dale battled injuries early in his career. On Sunday, we finally saw Robinson play to his full capabilities.

Robinson caught eight passes for a career-high 142 yards. If the Giants had a third down, Russell Wilson was going to find Wan’Dale. Trailing by four with under three minutes to play in the fourth quarter, the Giants had to convert on 4th and 4. Wilson unleashed one of his signature moon-balls that hit Robinson in stride for a go-ahead 32-yard touchdown.

“At that point, you think we got it. You got all the confidence in the world for the defense to go out there and get a stop and get us the ball back, and we can ice the game from there,” Robinson said postgame.

Unfortunately, the defense did not get a stop. Brandon Aubrey hit a 64-yard field goal to send the game into overtime, where the Cowboys ultimately picked up the divisional win with a 40-37 victory.

Robinson Ran Downfield Routes

In the early stages of his career, the Giants pigeon-holed Robinson into a very specific role. He was used in the slot, with short routes in the flats or drags across the middle of the field. Ahead of the season, Robinson said the Giants planned to let him get some deeper shots down the field. He wasn’t lying.

Of his 10 targets, only four were less than 10 yards downfield. Robinson had three receptions of 20+ yards, including a 50-yard bomb down inside the 5-yard line that set up a Giants score.

Dru Phillips Barks Back

The NFC East rivalries always feature some sort of extracurriculars. Cowboys star receiver CeeDee Lamb was anxious to see No. 22 for the Giants. Dru Phillips tackled Lamb to the ground when the receiver didn’t have the ball during last year’s game on Thanksgiving. Lamb injured his shoulder on the play, and it ultimately ended his season.

“He tackled me and hurt me, so I’ve got something for him,” Lamb said Thursday. “For sure.”

The former Kentucky defensive back had something for Lamb. The Dallas receiver made his fair share of big plays, finishing the day with 112 receiving yards, but one of those passes went right to Phillips. He had 11 tackles and one incredible interception.
