The Scheduling of Duke University by the Coward Mike Krzyzewski

by:Thomas Beisner06/16/11

It’s not Friday, but the theory still holds true.

Over the past few seasons, there’s been a quiet, yet hopeful, whisper that Kentucky could possibly land a regular season game with Duke.  The longing for a little shirts and blouses action between the two schools is probably heavier on this end because, well, we like beating good teams.  Duke?  They’re not interested in playing Kentucky.  This confirmation comes from John Calipari himself, who was asked about a potential matchup last by a fan in Richmond.

For all the hell Duke gets for not playing anyone away from Cameron Indoor, they’ve picked it up a bit the last few years.  So you’d think Kentucky would get a shot, right?  Not quite.  Coach K and his boys are 3-4 in true road games the last three seasons, so the chances that they want to mix it up with an elite program in the non-conference are probably disappearing faster than Kyrie Irving’s dignity.

Of course, despite all their running and dodging, the Cats and Duke will finally get each other in 2012, thanks to the new ESPN annual tournament.  In the meantime, keep hiding behind your UNC-Greensboro’s, Duke.  We’ll schedule elite teams.  Like North Carolina.

*There’s a Duke blog that ripped on Cal for saying this, but the first thing you learn as a black belt nerd fighter is that you never nerd fight with actual nerds.  Be careful.
