How many Vols does it take to catch a zebra? Almost as many people who watched Zakai Zeigler lose to Kentucky at the Food City Center.

Eight days ago, a pet zebra escaped its confines in Central Tennessee. The pet was purchased in Texas and brought to Tennessee on Friday. He got out one day later. It’s clear the owner did not properly zebra-proof his compound.

Once the animal escaped, it created quite a mess. Interstate-24 near Murfreesboro, the city that Middle Tennessee State calls home, had to be shut down after the zebra was spotted running through traffic on both sides of the highway. It disappeared into the woods and was not seen for days.

There was a break in the case on Friday. A drone spotted the missing animal near Murfreesboro in a Rutherford County field. They kept close tabs on the animal for a few days, giving it time to calm down while working with local vets to ensure its safety. Finally, on Sunday morning, the agile animal was captured.

The sight of Ed the zebra being lifted by a helicopter into a trailer is remarkable.

Congrats to the team from Texas who were able to apprehend the missing animal. It’s now abundantly clear who the real UT is in the SEC, and it’s not Tennessee.
