The update on Jaland Lowe is that there is no update on Jaland Lowe

Will Jaland Lowe return this season for the Kentucky Wildcats after reinjuring his right shoulder? If he does, when? Mark Pope shared his first update on the Pittsburgh transfer’s status since the Eastern Illinois win, the second-year coach saying at the time Lowe would get second and third opinions on his shoulder and talk things over with his family and agent before making a final call on his short- and long-term availability.

The update, immediately after the 83-66 loss to Michigan State at Madison Square Garden? There is no update.

“I don’t,” Pope told KSR of any potential developments over the weekend or to begin the new week. “I don’t have anything new for you on that.”

His status remains uncertain, but he didn’t want Lowe’s absence to come across as an excuse for the team’s overall performance and the lack of playmaking — just 13 assists on 20 made baskets.

“I think that’s not contributing at all,” he said of the lack of lineup continuity, anchored by Lowe’s inconsistent availability. “I’m going to take the hit for this. I’ve got guys that are skilled, talented players. They care a lot, and I just haven’t been able to put the pieces together quite right yet.”

The junior guard originally injured his right shoulder during the Blue-White Game on Oct. 17 before missing both exhibition games against No. 1 Purdue and Georgetown, then the regular season opener against Nicholls. He returned against Valparaiso and Louisville, only to re-injure that same right shoulder during practice two days later, forcing him to miss Friday’s win over Eastern Illinois.

“We don’t have anything yet, so we’ll probably have some discussions over the next couple of days about what’s the best thing to do right now,” Pope told reporters on Friday. “That’s probably the point where we are right now. I think we’ve got a bevy of second and third opinions, and so right now it’s going to be more just like the whole group, the whole medical team, and mom and dad and J-Lowe, and me sitting down and having a real conversation about what’s the best thing to do move forward.”

It took him three weeks from the initial injury to suit up again for the Wildcats. How long will it be this time around — if ever? Nothing new from Pope on Tuesday to indicate we’re trending one way or the other.
