There are no guards, forwards or centers on Morehead State's official roster — just 'shooters'

Kentucky’s first opponent of the season, Morehead State, hired a new head coach this past offseason by the name of Ashton Feldhaus — and yes, she is related to Deron.

When any coach steps into a new program, oftentimes the first thing on the agenda is to establish their culture — the identity that they want for their team. For Feldhaus, part of that means having a position-less roster.

You hear that term — position-less — a lot nowadays when coaches try to illustrate the fact that they want all of their players to be extremely versatile. Like Clara Strack for example, who isn’t just stuck on the block with her back to the basket. She can bring the ball up the court and shoot some too. Well, Feldhaus is taking position-less to a whole new level.

When you look at Morehead State’s official roster, you’ll quickly notice that something looks a bit… off.

Rather than having guards, forwards or centers listed on the roster, every single player is marked down as a “shooter”. It’s not as odd as Fairfield calling their big “road runners”, but it’s definitely unusual. Clearly, Feldhaus wants to make it known that all of her players can, well, shoot the ball.

On Monday, Kentucky takes on Morehead State at 6:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network+. Hopefully, we don’t really have to see their “shooters” shoot the ball too well. We need their “shooters” to not be “makers” when they walk into Historic Memorial Coliseum.
