Three interesting things around the SEC from this weekend

Image result for kirby smart getty images Kentucky may have lost to Ole Miss 37-34, but there were some other interesting things to think about after week ten in the SEC. Florida got absolutely throttled by a bad Missouri Tigers team after parting ways with Jim McElwain, Alabama and Georgia are playing leapfrog with each other for that No. 1 ranking as long as neither team loses, and Butch Jones is still the head coach at Tennessee... somehow. Let's break it down: https://twitter.com/MizzouFootball/status/926890474274721794 Missouri dismantles Florida: If you have been listening to what Freddie Maggard has been saying about Missouri for a few weeks, Saturday's 45-16 win against UF wasn't a shock to you. The fifth-place Tigers laid it on the Gators from start to finish. I honestly can't wait to listen to the Paul Finebaum show tomorrow to listen to all of the arrogant Florida fans. Was firing Jim McElwain in the middle of the season a smart decision? Probably not. Florida (3-5) has now lost four games in a row and might not make a bowl game. They play at South Carolina next weekend, then UAB at home who just became bowl eligible this past weekend (upset in the Swamp?), and then at home against a very bad cross-state rival Florida State Seminole team. Was firing McElwain in the middle of the season smart? Jim at least could've probably got you to a bowl game, now if you don't win out you are looking at a losing season. It's not like you can hire a new coach like Mike Gundy, Charlie Strong, Dan Mullen, or Willie Taggart, etc. in the middle of the season. No, McElwain's offense wasn't fun to watch, but appreciate what you have and deal with it until you have a new plan in place. Onto the next subject before I shed a tear from thinking about the Cats not being able to finish off this horrid Florida team in from earlier this season. Image result for alabama and georgia getty images Alabama and Georgia playing leapfrog: I really hate giving this guy the time of day because I think he's a moron, but Colin Cowherd's remarks on Georgia not making the College Football Playoff after last weekend are hopefully an afterthought after this past weekend's 24-10 win over South Carolina. Cowherd said Ohio State and Penn State were both going to get back into the College Football Playoff, even though both teams suffered losses again this past weekend. He also said that the SEC was weak this season, which I would have to agree with, but don't also say you think Clemson is in over Georgia when they lost to a pitiful Syracuse team. I know they didn't have their starting quarterback but a loss is a loss. Stick to talking trash about our guys in the NBA. https://twitter.com/TheHerd/status/925153619606773760 Hopefully, your opinion is changed after yesterday, Mr. Cowherd. Okay back to Alabama and Georgia playing leapfrog. After last weekend, Georiga solidified the number one ranking after jumping over the number one ranked Crimson Tide in the BCS ranking system after a blowout 45-7 win over Florida. Then after this weekend, Alabama jumped back over Georgia with a win over the previously ranked number 19 LSU Tigers 24-10. Both teams are sitting at 9 and 0, and Georgia has already punched their ticket to the SEC Championship in Atlanta. The Bulldogs will travel down to Auburn this weekend to play the No. 10-ranked Tigers. With a Georgia win, you would certainly think they would leap back over Alabama for that number one ranking again since Bama will play in Starkville against No. 18 Mississippi State. My guess is that they will keep the number one spot until week 12 when Alabama plays Auburn. That's also saying that both teams will win out and will be playing in Atlanta with Alabama being ranked number one and Georiga being ranked number two in the country. Here are my top four teams for the College Football Playoff as of right now, in this order: 1.) Alabama 2.) Georgia 3.) Notre Dame 4.) Miami Image result for butch jones getty images Tennessee is bad, but not as bad as Florida: As for Tennessee and Butch Jones, it is a dumpster fire. After a win this weekend against Southern Miss, however, the Vols still have a shot at making a bowl game. With three weeks left, they are sitting at 4-5 on the season. Still looking for their first SEC win of the season, they now have their sites set on Missouri on the road this weekend. If they win this weekend, lose to LSU next weekend, and then beat rival Vanderbilt at home, they would send Butch out in a good fashion by going bowling one last time. Even though Tennessee fans would disagree, I think their program is approaching their head coach situation a lot better than Florida is. Butch is getting fired at the end of this season, that's a given. Even though Tennessee is playing really bad football, at least they are still competing each week and still have a shot at a bowl game. Behind the scenes they are making sure they do everything right to make sure they land the next best head ball coach. Florida, on the other hand, looks like they have just surrendered their season. Tennessee stinks, but at least they are stinking the right way. Bye bye, Butch. Your time is soon. https://giphy.com/gifs/hello-hi-wave-xT9IgG50Fb7Mi0prBC @Alex_Holder_KSR [mobile_ad]
