Tight End Justin Rigg will Miss the Rest of Spring Practice

@JustinRigg1
The Kentucky football team will have to get through five weeks of spring practice without their top two tight ends.
A day after Justin Rigg was taken to the hospital following a collision with Chris Westry, Mark Stoops announced Rigg is finished with spring football. The sophomore suffered an injury to his spleen. Fortunately, it is non-operative and Stoops expects a full recovery by fall.
“There was nothing major where they felt like they had to take it out,” Stoops said. “The good news is all of the tests were positive. He’s feeling good.”

Stoops expects Rigg to be released from the hospital today.
In Rigg’s two years on campus, the tight end has suffered two internal injuries. A lacerated kidney kept him out of action for most of his freshman season, and now a bad spleen will sideline him for his sophomore spring season. In the middle of all the bad luck, he caught two passes for 34 yards in place of C.J. Conrad at this year’s Music City Bowl.
Without Rigg or Conrad, Kentucky is essentially out of tight ends. Brenden Bates and Keaton Upshaw will provide relief this fall, but today they had to move Landon Young outside to give Kentucky the right looks out of a running formation. Vince Marrow said Will Roden, a sophomore walk-on from Lexington Catholic, has been a pleasant surprise through the first two days of spring practice.
