A week ago, TJ Beisner announced he was leaving his role as Director of Player Development on Kentucky’s staff. Now, we know where he’s headed. Matt Norlander is reporting that Beisner has taken a position at North Carolina. Similar to his role at Kentucky, he will work with an outside firm and oversee the Tar Heels’ name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals and build out a collective.

Beisner, formerly an editor of Kentucky Sports Radio and host of KSTV, was on John Calipari’s staff for five seasons, helping the program navigate the uncharted waters of NIL. He wore many hats during his tenure in Lexington, providing support to players on non-basketball issues and organizing and managing the program’s community service involvement in addition to building Kentucky’s NIL brand. He was John Calipari’s right-hand man, a very cool accomplishment for a lifelong Kentucky fan and alumnus of the university.

“My trusted lieutenant (TJ Beisner) is moving on,” John Calipari said last week. “I couldn’t be happier for him and his family. From Martin Newton to David Scott to Eric Lindsey to Metz Camfield…they’ve all used their roles in this basketball program to move their family forward. TJ ended up being the jack of all trades and I’m going to miss our morning calls and my keep-me-up-to-date calls. But he’ll always have me in his corner!”

While it will be weird to see Beisner in Tar Heel Blue, it’s worth noting that a primary reason he accepted the job at UNC is to be closer to his son, Tyler, who lives in North Carolina. We wish him nothing but luck in his new role — except when the Tar Heels face the Cats on December 16.
