Happy Fourth, BBN! We here at KSR hope you are having a safe and fun long weekend wherever you may be.

While you bask in the glory of the red, white and blue (particularly the BLUE), there are just a few things you need to know today.

Jalen Duren narrows it down

2022’s number one prospect has narrowed his list down to five contenders, including the University of Kentucky. UK joins Memphis, Miami, the G-league, and the NBL on Duren’s shortlist, of which he says he has “no idea” what he will do. Duren says he will make a decision sometime after the Peach Jam, which will be held from July 13-25.

Joey Chestnut seeks his 14th title

The annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest will commence this afternoon as it does every July 4th. After a virtual event last year, the contest is back in full swing. Legendary hot dog eater Joey Chestnut is yet again competing to retain his title after eating 75 hot dogs in ten minutes last year. I’m ill just thinking of it, but also impressed. Women’s competition starts at 11:30 EST on ESPN3, with the men’s following at 12 on ESPN.

Booker and the Suns head to the Finals

For the first time since 1993, the Phoenix Suns are headed to the NBA Finals. After a stellar year, Devin Booker suffered a broken nose in game 2 of the Conference Finals. After cinching the Western Conference Finals, the Suns will face the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Milwaukee Bucks. The Suns will begin their road to the ring this Tuesday, July 6th.

BBNIL

This past week has been an absolute firestorm regarding the NCAA’s new policies centered around name, image, and likeness. Recently, Kentucky Basketball and Football have released promotional videos embracing the new NIL policies, calling it BBNIL. We can expect to see a lot of commotion surrounding deals these athletes are getting. Many athletes are already on Cameo, an app where you can personalize video greetings from your favorite players. This is only the beginning of BBNIL, and we can assume there will be much more in the weeks to come. Coach Cal said it best below, in a few words.

Let freedom ring, BBN!
