Today on KSR: Remember November

Remember, remember, the fifth of November… The old British rhyme gained some popularity in the early 00s thanks to V for Vendetta. The stakes in the dystopian tale were much higher for the Guy Fawkes-masked marauder, but college football shares a similar sentiment. Two-thirds of the way through the season, the hype from the preseason has dwindled. Lumps have been taken. Will teams learn lessons for the final month of college football, or get shoved down a slippery slope?
Kentucky is at a crossroads. The BBN was patient with Rich Scangarello while the offense worked through early growing pains without Chris Rodriguez. The benefit of the doubt slowly dwindled throughout October, culminating in a big stinker in Knoxville. Kentucky’s offensive coordinator admitted he tried to be too perfect on Rocky Top and things got sideways in a hurry.
While we’re overreacting, the Cats can’t. Three of the final four games are at home, UK will be favored in three games and two are toss-ups, according to ESPN power ratings. There’s no denying Kentucky will not achieve all of its preseason goals, but they can still steer into the skid and salvage the season. They have rallied for late wins before under Mark Stoops (see: 2021, 2019) and they can do it again. In college football November means everything, and these Kentucky Wildcats are no exception.
Defensive Day for Kentucky
As the clock turns to November, it’s time for some answers from the Kentucky offense. These Wildcats are not overreacting too harshly to one abysmal outing. Today we’ll hear from the group that has carried a heavy weight this season, one they may have to continue to carry in Columbia against a not-so-good Mizzou offense. Brad White will be joined by a couple of Cats this evening. In the meantime, catch up with Coach Rich, Kenneth Horsey and Jordan Dingle.
First CFB Playoff Rankings Unveiled
And Tennessee is No. 1. Gross. There’s only one thing that can slow down the ego of Volunteer fans, Georgia. That could happen Saturday. Fingers crossed. Kentucky missed the initial cut but that could change with a UK win on Saturday and a few losses around college football.

Kentucky Men’s Soccer Stays Undefeated
The second-ranked Wildcats pitched a shut out Tuesday night. The 3-0 victory over South Carolina secured a Sun Belt regular season title and a de facto SEC Championship over the only other SEC school that plays men’s soccer. Now 11-0-5, Kentucky completed its first undefeated regular season ever, joining Washington and Duke as the sport’s last two unbeatens. The Cats return to the pitch at The Bell on Sunday to open Sun Belt tournament play.
Phillies Hold Serve at Home
The Philadelphia Phillies blasted their way to a surprising win over the Houston Astros. Five different players homered, just the second time it’s ever happened in a World Series game, to propel Philly to a 7-0 win in game three. We’ll find out tonight if the home squad can take a 3-1 lead after the first pitch is thrown at approximately 8:03 pm EST on Fox.
Another Kentucky Basketball Tragedy
Time and time again, John Calipari’s basketball team has dealt with loss. The start of this Kentucky basketball season is no exception. Ben Collins, the father of sophomore forward Daimion Collins, passed away Monday.
“We are saddened by the loss of Ben Collins,” Calipari shared late Tuesday evening. “He was a loving father & husband who wanted the best for his family. It’s been a really rough day for the team, staff and the basketball family but we will do everything we can to support the Collins family through this difficult time.”
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Collins family during this difficult time.
