Good morning BBN and welcome to December! As we all get back to the swing of things tomorrow after a holiday weekend, let’s recap what happened yesterday and preview what’s going on today!

Kentucky beats the Red Team

For the second straight year, the Cats demolished the team from down the road in impressive fashion. Let’s look back on some good moments from yesterday’s victory:

Yesterday was something else.

As we thank the seniors for what has to be a historic run for a span of four straight seasons of 7 or more wins, it was spectacular to send them off with a victory like that. I thought it would be close, but it seemed like Kentucky just wanted it more yesterday and it showed. By only passing twice (one being a flea-flicker), what the Cats did yesterday on the ground is something I have not seen before.

The Cats had their most impressive game on the ground to date by gaining 517 rushing yards and six touchdowns. SIX.

How did they do that? What that offensive line and those tight-ends did yesterday was something else. This group all year has shown something that Kentucky has not seen in a long time.

Lynn Bowden Jr. puts his name in the record books, again

As Kentucky found every possible way to beat the red team on the ground in a cold and rainy game, it was all lead by the quarterback, Lynn Bowden Jr.

As the Cats rushed for 517 yards, Bowden Jr. had 284 rushing yards with four touchdowns of his own. This is the most by an SEC quarterback ever in a single game. Yes, and all-SEC record for Bowden Jr.

With that, this cool stat is something else.

All of those quarterbacks, with the exception of Bowden, have one thing in common: they’re Heisman Trophy winners. What Bowden has done as he has taken over after Wilson and Smith went down is impressive. A season to remember. What a way to cap it off.

With the record-setting day yesterday, the MVP of the Governors Cup trophy was pretty easy to figure out. What an emotional scene that was.

As Bowden was handed the white Lousiville Slugger Bat it was an amazing scene to end the regular season at Kroger Field.

Alabama loses the Iron Bowl

While Alabama was going into yesterday looking at a Playoff berth, the Tigers have probably squashed that dream for the Crimson Tide after Saturday’s Iron Bowl. After a back and forth game on the plains, it came down to the Crimson Tide’s kicking game. That’s something that has been a weakness for this team for a very long time.

No. 15 Auburn escaped No. 5 Alabama in a down-to-the-wire Iron Bowl finish, 48-45.

The SEC championship will be held this week in Atlanta, and Alabama will obviously not be there. After yesterday, it seems like they won’t be in the College Football Playoffs either.

A lot of people seemed confused about why Auburn fans rushed the field, but I have no problem with it. They just won a game against their biggest rival that is going to end up keeping Alabama out of the playoff for the first time ever.

Kentucky Volleyball, SEC Champions for the third straight season

As rivalry weekend was happening on the gridiron yesterday, the Kentucky Volleyball team clinched their 3rd straight SEC regular-season title. What a way to bring the seniors out in Memorial.

As Lexington-native Leah Edmond has now played her last regular season match in Memorial Coliseum, the dominance she has shown the last four years was astounding, and I am honored I got to see it from the sidelines.

Congrats Coach Skinner and the Kentucky Volleyball team! What a win.

TODAY: UK Hoops plays at home at 4:00

The Kentucky women’s basketball team will return to action Sunday afternoon, beginning at 4:00 p.m. The No. 14 Wildcats will host Austin Peay inside Memorial Coliseum.

Matthew Mitchell and his team are coming off their best performance of the season from their Tuesday night outing, where the Cats scored a season-high 81 points and limited Grambling State to a season-low 35 points. Can they recreate that same dominance today? Head out to Memorial Coliseum this afternoon, or tune in on the SEC Network to find out.
