Today On KSR: UK fan situation, H.S. football and more

UK officially announced a reduced capacity, new restrictions in Kroger Field this fall.

The biggest news from Thursday came from Mitch Barnhart’s comments to the UK Board of Trustees when talking about fan attendance this fall. Barnhart noted UK is still awaiting approval of its proposal from the governor’s office, but if approved, UK will allow 12,000 fans, socially-distanced, in masks, no tailgating.

Soon after Barnhart’s comments went public, UK Athletics released a statement announcing 20 percent capacity with several new restrictions and more to come.

In that same release, we learned how UK will determine the season ticket holders who will be among the percentage of fans allowed in:

The UK Ticket Office and K Fund will communicate directly with season ticket holders to provide options regarding 2020 season tickets. Due to the significant reduction in ticket inventory, season tickets will not be issued for this fall, and all prior seat locations will be deferred to the 2021 season.

Current season ticket holders who wish to attend games during the 2020 season will have the opportunity to purchase priority single-game tickets through an online selection process. Sales will begin next week, and K Fund priority ranking will determine the order for online ticket selections.

Available tickets will be physically distanced throughout Kroger Field, and accounts will be limited to purchasing one block of seats per game, most in groups of two (2) or four (4). This will help to maximize attendance opportunities for a greater number of season ticket accounts. UK Athletics hopes to accommodate as many ticket accounts as possible, though there is no guarantee that every season ticket holder will be able to purchase tickets due to the limited capacity. Parking will be included in the ticket price (one parking permit per order) and tickets will be sold at a price between $60 and $150, consistent across all five games. All of that info can be seen here.

High school football starts in Kentucky.

The season we almost didn’t have starts tonight with several games around the Bluegrass. Fan attendance will be extremely limited with capacity and regulations decided by each district. In Lexington, only immediate family is allowed in and only then will up to five tickets be distributed per player. It’s not ideal and won’t be well received in many areas, but the decisions were made in the best interest of safety and the likelihood of completing the entire season as scheduled.

At least the Friday Night Lights will be on for the kids and their families.

Skyy Clark announced his top four schools.

Skyy Clark, one of the top point guards in the Class of 2022, was once considered a lock to one day commit to Kentucky, his dream school, but here recently UNC has been a real thorn in the UK coaching staff’s side. The Cats have completely lost all momentum as the Tar Heels make Clark a priority, and on Thursday he named those two schools, as well as Memphis and UCLA, his finalists.

Randall Cobb made two catches for his new team.

The NFL returned with the two highest paid QBs in history squaring off in Kansas City as the Chiefs hosted the Texans in the season opener of Thursday Night Football.

Making his debut for the Texans, former UK wide receiver Randall Cobb is one of the receivers trying to fill DeAndre Hopkins’ old shoes in Deshaun Watson’s offense. In this one Cobb was pretty silent until the very end when he caught two passes (one a 17-yarder) late in the game when Houston was trying to mount a comeback.

They did not come back and Mahomes’ Chiefs won, 34-20. I can’t wait till Ryan Lemond finds out about it on the radio show.
