Today on KSR: Welcome to the BBN, Tyrese Maxey

by: Nick Roush05/10/18@RoushKSR
[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="1200"] @marchmadness[/caption] After the BBN anxiously waited for weeks, Tyrese Maxey is officially rocking Kentucky blue.  Yesterday he released a video that made the move official, but Maxey admitted he actually gave Coach Cal his commitment a few weeks ago.  The story of how it happened is quite hilarious. "I was sitting around with my parents late one night at my house and I told me them, 'I’m ready to do this!' So I called Coach Cal and he was asleep. Haha!" Considered the second-ranked point guard and the No. 13 player overall in the class of 2019, the addition of Maxey gives UK the top-ranked class in 2019, joining D.J. Jeffries (#9 SF, #31 overall) and Ashton Hagans (#1 PG, #10 overall).  Many expect Hagans and/or Maxey to reclassify and join the team this fall, but Maxey said he just wants to be a kid for another year. "I know that may shock some of y’all but for me it came down to me just wanting to be a kid for my last year of high school. I just wanted to be around all of my friends and all of my family one last year and I don’t want to pass that up." Maxey plans on using that extra year to bring some of the best with him to Kentucky.  If one of those guys he brings to Kentucky is his friend James Wiseman, I don't think anyone would mind. "I always wanted to be a part of a class that I helped create; guys I helped to bring to the school with me to try and win this national title." And just like that, Kentucky has an excellent scoring point guard, prepared to lead the team in the future.  Wednesday May 9 was a great day in the Big Blue Nation. https://twitter.com/KentuckyMBB/status/994322296469905410

Condi Rice is Changing her Tune

It's been less than a month since Condoleezza Rice announced the findings of the College Basketball Commission.  It didn't take her long to backtrack on some statements. After blasting the one-and-done rule and essentially siding with the NCAA, she now says they want the players to profit off their likeness and that the NCAA's rules are "incomprehensible."  Almost as incomprehensible as the Commission on College Basketball.

UK Athletics GPA is Better than KSR's

This semester UK student-athletes had a 3.18 GPA.  It's their 12th straight semester with a B-average.  KSR employs a guy who took English 101 three times and one who spent 12 semesters (or more) in school.  Ain't no way our GPA can compete with UK's.

Celtics Survive

Boston beat the Philadelphia 76ers 114-112 to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.  Unfortunately, that series against the Cavs does not start until Sunday.  You'll have to wait until Monday night to see Game One between the Warriors and the Rockets.  Without sports on TV, there's one way to spend your time tonight...

Twilight Thursday at Churchill Downs

It's the first Happy Hour of the Spring Meet at Churchill Downs.  If you lost all of your money at the Derby, you can still afford to drink $1 beers in the paddock with live music and races from 5:00-8:00.

The New Avengers is Awesome

And you don't have to be a nerd to know it's a fantastic movie.  The only Marvel movie I've seen since the last Avengers was Black Panther.  It helped to know the setting of Wakanda, but I did not need to know why Captain America and Iron Man hate each other to understand the plot.  They fill you in with enough back story that this movie stands alone as one of the best I've seen in quite some time. You don't listen to my expert analysis; listen to The Funkhouser Situation.  Lee Cruse and Chris Tomlin gave their spoiler-filled thoughts on Marvel's masterpiece.

KSR Needs YOUR Help

As Kentucky heats up, KSR is looking for summer brand ambassadors.  If you're in Lexington and want to have some fun traveling around the state, look no further.  Check out the details here before you e-mail [email protected].

It's Ryan's Last Day without Hair

He celebrated the occasion by bowling with the KSR crew last night.  Surprise, surprise, they did not win. [mobile_ad]
