While August 3rd may just be another day on the calendar for a majority of Americans, for two men in this land of ours, this date holds much more significance. First, August 3rd is National Watermelon Day, and there’s no doubting that Gallagher is breathing heavily over the of hundreds of Citrullus lanatus he senselessly murdered today. Secondly, an Ugg-wearing American is celebrating his 36th birthday today, and that American is Tom Brady.

Whether you love Tom Brady or can’t stand the thought of him, one must admit that he’s one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the professional game. With 44,806 passing yards, 334 touchdowns, 3 Super Bowl victories, 2 Super Bowl MVPs, and 2 NFL MVPs, it’s damn near impossible to find a player with a similar résumé. Of course, given all of the on-field accolades and success, it’s a general rule of thumb that the off-field recognition is never far away, and Tom Brady is no exception to this rule. He’s currently married to Brazilian model, Gisele Bündchen, and is the cover boy for Ugg Boots, the Australian shoe company which makes those stylish boots pictured above. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Tom Brady is worth a cool $120 Million, which is more than peasants like you and I can even dream of making in ten lifetimes. So here’s to you Tom, may your 36th birthday be a happy and healthy one and may you score many fantasy points for me this year.

On to the news on a very slow news day in the world of Kentucky sports.

-Kentucky commit, and everyone’s favorite KSR writer, Drew Barker, tweeted out a picture of his official scholarship offer from Mark Stoops and the University of Kentucky today. They say that you should be cautious of high school athletes and their commitments before they arrive on campus, however, I think it’s safe to assume that Barker shows up on campus when the time finally arrives. Call it the most obvious hunch ever.

-Not to be outdone by Drew Barker, Matt Elam, the uncommitted 5-star (247 Sports) Defensive Tackle from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, tweeted his official scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky as well. In addition to his offer from Stoops and company, Elam also tweeted out his offers from Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. The following offers from Alabama and Ohio State are pictured below.

-While optimism around the football program is at an all-time high in Lexington right now, Saturday Down South reminds us that the road to football recovery will be a long and winding one. In the “Crystal Ball” series, where SDS predicts game-by-game outcomes for every team, they predicted a 3-9 record for Mark Stoops’ first squad with wins over Western Kentucky, Miami (OH), and Alabama State. Call me crazy, but I’m thinking the Cats have what it takes to knock off an SEC opponent this year.

Tickets are still available for the up-coming 2013 Kentucky Alumni Charity Game. There’s an eight ticket limit per person and prices range from $5 to $50 dollars depending upon the quality of your seat. The event is slated for September 9th and all proceeds go to charity.

-Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve most likely heard that John Wall signed a 5-year, $80 million extension with the Washington Wizards. When you make that kind of money as a point guard, there’s no avoiding the comparison to the leagues’s other elite floor generals. In Friday’s interview with Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, he was asked where he would rank himself among the leagues best point guards, Wall said the following. “I rank myself the best.”

Of course, it’s easy to see why Wall thinks he’s the best point guard when he performs stunts like this. Someone must have taped a cheetah to his back, or edited the video, but I’m going with a cheetah taped to his back. Nope, no video editing funny business going on here at all.
