Kentucky is adding some offensive firepower. Tovani Mizell, a talented running back with exceptional pass-catching skills, committed to Kentucky during an appearance on Kentucky Sports Radio.

Mizell is a Florida native that was wowed on his official visit to the University of Kentucky. In addition to his trip to Lexington, the former Georgia commit also officially visited North Carolina and Oklahoma. His offer sheet is a who’s who from around the college football ranks.

A three-star prospect, Tovani Mizell is a Top 500 recruit in the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He cracked the ESPN300 as a four-star talent.

Tovani Mizell commits to Kentucky

Mizell is from Ft. Lauderdale, but he spent his junior season playing for Washington D.C.-area powerhouse DeMatha Catholic. His cousin, Aidan Mizell, is a four-star wide receiver prospect that will play for the Florida Gators this fall. Tovani was previously committed to Georgia, back when he was one of the most impressive players on the 7-on-7 circuit. The running back impressed Charles Power last summer, On3’s Director of Scouting.

“Tovani Mizell impressed with his receiving skills at OT7, coming down the best catches we saw from a running back not named Rueben Owens,” Power wrote in June 2022. “We saw the Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Newman product come down a fantastic leaping touchdown catch, finishing with a toe tap in the corner of the end zone on Thursday. It’s always good to see running back prospects with receiver-level ball skills and that looks to be the case with Mizell.”

The pass-catching ability is what separates Tovani Mizell from his peers. A true two-way threat, new running backs coach Jay Boulware identified the South Florida talent and made him a top priority. Now officially in the fold, Kentucky adds an explosive running back with an impressive pedigree to the Cats’ 2024 recruiting class.
