Transfer Portal Diaries: Playing the Waiting Game

The transfer portal is a chaotic time for college football fans. Allow KSR to deliver your daily morning dose of Kentucky football transfer portal news in the most ridiculous manner possible.
Zach Calzada Time?
Kentucky needs a transfer portal quarterback. It looks like they’ve found one in Zach Calzada, whose visit to Kentucky began on Tuesday night. Insiders have logged predictions for Calzada to commit to the Cats. Right now, we’re playing the waiting game. What should we do in the meantime? Maybe check out some of his best plays from his 2023 season.
Reassessing Transfer Portal Targets at Left Tackle
It looked like Kentucky was ready to reel in a left tackle from the SEC. Unfortunately, what we thought might happen, happened. Former Vanderbilt OT Gunnar Hansen was expected to visit Kentucky today. He didn’t leave Tallahassee without committing to Florida State.
You can’t win ’em all in the transfer portal. After also missing out on Nevada’s Isaiah World, now is the time to stop and reassess. Western Carolina’s Derek Simmons and New Mexico’s Wallace Unamba have already visited. Are either of those viable options? Can Kentucky get Rice OT Ethan Onianwa on campus and potentially secure a commitment? These are the questions Kentucky must answer before scouring rosters to see if there’s another potential left tackle that could fill the void on the Big Blue Wall who isn’t currently in the transfer portal.

The Latest on Running Backs
Nebraska running back Dante Dowdle‘s name was swirling around BBN on Tuesday as another potential option for the Cats. The powerful 225-pound runner had 614 yards and 12 touchdowns last season for the Huskers. We’ll be keeping a close on Dowdle to see if talks advance further.
Meanwhile, Jacob Polacheck caught up with Ahmad Hardy before he took a visit to Missouri. Eli Drinkwitz already swiped Marquise Davis from Kentucky. The Cats can’t let the Mizzou head coach also steal their top running back target in the transfer portal.
New Visitors
Polacheck reports Kentucky is hosting a couple of cornerbacks, Myles Norwood from Ball State and Kevis Thomas from Maryland, in the coming days. JJ Hester, a lengthy wide receiver who started his career with Bush Hamdan and Ja’Mori Maclin at Missouri, visited Kentucky on Tuesday. Take a closer look at who else is beginning official visits to Kentucky today on KSR+.
