National Signing Day is quickly approaching and there are non-stop developments occurring on the recruiting trail. Kentucky’s coaching staff has been on the road all week to visit 2023 recruits and are getting ready for a big official visit weekend in Lexington.

One of the biggest positions that must be addressed is tailback. The Wildcats currently have no running backs in the fold and are losing Chris Rodriguez Jr. to the NFL while Kavosiey Smoke and Michael Drennen II entered the transfer portal since the regular season ended.

Trey Cornist has emerged as one of Kentucky’s top options at tailback. The Wildcats issued a scholarship offer on Nov. 1 and then hosted the running back for an official visit less than two weeks later. Recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow then conducted a in-home visit with the Ohio native this week. UK is trending in this recruitment.

On Friday, Cornist released his finalists with Kentucky being joined by East Carolina, Kansas State, Louisville, Michigan State, Tulane, and West Virginia. The former Georgia Tech commit has also visited Michigan State, Ohio State, and East Carolina in recent weeks. Tulane made the trip to Cincinnati to conduct an in-home visit with the prospect this week.

However, Kentucky appears to be standing out.

“Kentucky is like a second home with a solid coaching staff that is like family to me,” Cornist told Rivals. “They will make sure you are straight and my whole family loves UK a lot.”

The big tailback rushed for over 1,600 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior as Cornist is a north-south runner with power. There is a need for a power back at Kentucky following the departure of Rodriguez and Cornist can fill a big need for the offense.

Trey Cornist has announced that he will be making his final decision on signing day (Dec. 21). Kentucky will attempt to close on one of its top options at tailback.

Recruiting never stops.
