Tweet Beat Power Rankings: October

As part of the never-ending quest to bring you University of Kentucky news in the most ridiculous manner possible, I comb the Twitter-verse each week for the funniest, oddest, and sometimes, nearly illegible tweets from your favorite players and personalities. Basically, I read Twitter so you don’t have to. Without further ado, here are the best tweets of the week. Last month, we released the first Tweet Beat Power Rankings, in which I ranked each UK basketball player by how good they are on Twitter/Instagram/etc. What constitutes "good"? They can be funny, like Perry Stevenson; real like Patrick Patterson; or straight up legendary like Doron Lamb. In September, Tod Lanter came out on top, but freshman Marcus Lee was close behind. With another month of social media interaction under their belts, who will reign supreme this go around? Here are October's Tweet Beat Power Rankings: 1. As usual, Tod had a lot to choose from, but I had to go with this tweet, especially after I looked up what Wallabees were: That is one weird outfit. But like all badasses, Lanter just says "Sweats stare? Don't care." Best recent Instagram: #TeamNoSleep call-outs continue, which is awesome because this team sleeps A LOT. Who will be this group's RichyP? Twitter style: Tod continues to kill it on Twitter. He's probably the best "Seinfeld tweeter" on the team, with a good mix of relatable tweets, including "This weather is just screaming Netflix" this past weekend when it was gross outside, and questions for fans, such as "Anybody have a song suggestion for BBM friday? Im stumped." However, the reason he stays on top of the Power Rankings is this Facebook status from earlier this week: It's Tod's world and we're just living in it. 2. Best recent Instagram: Goof. Ball. Twitter stock: Lee's motivational tweets still amuse me (which is saying something, because I usually hate that stuff), and even when he was sick, he managed to put out a positive vibe. Lee is a fan favorite for his optimism and eagerness to interact with fans, but even he's human, as shown by his lazy Papa Johns delivery tweet above. Ten bucks says that when the person delivered it, he gave them a big smile, and maybe even a small panda sticker. 3. Willie is really accepting his role as the seasoned vet, isn't he? Best recent Instagram: "What's Gucci? Other than my scarf?" Twitter stock: Willie's personality shines through in everything he does, although I wish he'd tweet a little more often. We know he's a huge "The Walking Dead" fan, so why not express that through social media? He could help educate fans on how best to prepare for a zombie apocalypse and potentially save lives. Maybe a zombie Halloween costume is in our future? We want more, Willie! Including more advice on women and relationships, because that's always funny. 4. Best recent Instagram: "This didn't work out too well for me @nerlensnoel3 #tbt #dumbidea #tomorrow #madness" Twitter stock: Thankfully, Malone has been a bit more active on Twitter and Instagram this month, posting more "Rich Kids of Instagram"-esque pics of himself and friends at places like "The Port Royal Club," and more snaps of his time at UK, like this Throwback Thursday picture of him and Nerlens. Malone's teammates claim he's hilarious, and we got a taste of that in his Madness intro. Right now, he's the Power Ranking's most improved player. 5. Hood is referring to Lanter's earlier tweet, "If it felt like this outside every day, @jonnylightning4 would have a different long-sleeved dry-fit for all 365 days." This isn't Nike Dri-Fit, Jon, but you're welcome: Best recent Instagram: As someone who takes way too many Instagram pics of her dog, I gotta go with this one. Twitter stock: There's no denying it: Jon Hood is a country boy through and through, and there's no better example than his Twitter feed. Another favorite tweet this month was Hood saying that he needs to go visit DeMarcus Cousins and Patrick Patterson in Sacramento after this season. Now THAT is a sitcom I would watch. 6. Best recent Instagram: "Hahaha, back in the days. #tbt" Is Baby Dakari's hair the inspiration for Marcus Lee's funky 'do? Twitter stock: Not many tweets or pics from Dakari this month, but a "Coming to America" reference always gets a thumbs-up from me, as does a baby picture of a future 7-footer. I also love his new profile picture, which is a shot of him while dancing (aka smiling and turning in a circle) at Big Blue Madness. Dakari has a ton of personality, and therefore Tweet Beat potential, and I wish he'd share it with the BBN. 7. This is funny because on Media Day, EJ revealed that he's scared of squirrels. Seriously. Best recent Instagram: I'm shocked this picture of him dunking on Randle isn't his permanent profile picture. Twitter stock: EJ's tweets are mainly replies to his friends, but there are some funny comments in there, like the squirrel dig above. He's got a great personality, and hopefully we'll see more as the year goes on. 8. Best recent Instagram: "Living a dream!" This is pretty much a senior picture pose and I love it. Twitter stock: Does anyone smile more than Dominique Hawkins? Seriously, he is cheesing in every single picture ever taken (except his profile picture, which is kind of funny). Hawkins' joy carries through in his tweets, which include lots of exclamation marks and reflective moments of gratitude for his place on the team. Actually, the tweet I chose as his best one may be the most subdued, but it's too universal not to share. 9. Best recent Instagram: Dancing in the car in DeMarcus Cousins' hat? I like it. Bonus points for cameos by EJ Floreal and Marcus Lee. Twitter stock: The biggest Tweet Beat Power Rankings development this month is James Young's return to Twitter. After deleting his account a while back, Young burst back on the Twitter scene Wednesday, and so far, so good for the super smooth frosh. Young likes to retweet fans and like his teammates, refers to the "grind" in practice. Young's account is legit, and throughout the day, his follower count skyrocketed. It's hard to judge him after one day back on Twitter, but I like the references to this team achieving "animal status." If his Instagram is any indication, we've got a lot to look forward to. 10. Best recent Instagram: Want to know how the Harrison Twins celebrated their birthday? Hibachi! Sadly, no onion volcano. Twitter stock: Aaron's on the rise this month because of some funny tweets and Instagrams, like the ones above. The Harrisons grew up near Houston, Texas, and therefore don't have a lot of experience with cold weather. So, when it "snowed" last week, they did what everyone did: tweeted about it. I had to laugh at Aaron's snow tweet because it's probably the most emotion he's ever shown. Stone cold killer thawed by the sight of snow. More of that, please. 11. Like his brother, Andrew is adjusting to the odd weather in Central Kentucky. Best recent Instagram: Julius posted a picture of his godmother on her birthday this month. Very sweet. Twitter stock: Julius has only tweeted once in the past month, but that tweet pretty much says it all. Like MKG before him, Julius has an amazing work ethic, which, fortunately and unfortunately, leaves little time for tweeting. This is the one ranking I really don't mind him being towards the bottom of. 15.
