A couple of Kentucky Wildcats are out in Los Angeles for the 123rd U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship this week. Two All-Americans, Jensen Castle and Laney Frye, tee off today in Round 1 at Bel-Air Country Club with hopes and intentions of claiming the Robert Cox Trophy.

Castle, a 2022-23 Second Team All-SEC selection, tees off at 8:08 a.m. local time (11:08 p.m. ET). Frye, another 2022-23 Second Team All-SEC selection, tees off at 12:52 p.m. on the West Coast.

After 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday, the field will be trimmed to 64 golfers for match play format beginning Wednesday. Golf Channel will carry coverage of the round of 64 through Sunday’s 36-hole championship match.

For Castle, she is chasing a second U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship title, having won the entire tournament in 2021. The South Carolina native was the first No. 63 seed to win the U.S. Women’s Amateur, defeating Arizona’s Yu-Chiang Hou in the championship match. Castle is one of the most decorated UK golf stars in school history and the only Wildcat to win the U.S. Women’s Amateur.

Frye, a senior from Lexington, is competing in her third U.S. Women’s Amateur. She too has a lengthy resume at the University of Kentucky, including 2022-23 WGCA All-America Second Team.

You can follow the live scoring on the USGA’s website.
