Former Kentucky tailback Tyler Markray joins Michigan's recruiting staff
Across the college football landscape, recruiting departments continue to grow. The transfer portal era combined with NIL (plus rev-share in the near future) has turned into programs realizing that they need more help in the scouting department. This has led to some NFL scouting personnel moving to college football.
It has also created more jobs in college football. A former Kentucky tailback is moving up the personnel ladder.
Tyler Markray is now a recruiting analyst at Michigan.
The Walled Lake (Mich.) Central product joined the Kentucky football program as a walk-on running back in 2018 after rushing for 720 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior in 2017. Markray was a member of the Kentucky program for four seasons. The Greater Detroit native had two carries for 52 yards in a blowout win over UT Martin in 2019.
After finishing his playing career, Tyler Markray got back into college football when Western Michigan hired him as a recruiting assistant in February. Just a couple of months later, the former tailback has joined Sherrone Moore‘s staff in Ann Arbor.

College football is very much in a new era and schools are working rapidly to expand personnel departments as recruiting looks much different in 2025 than it did in the past. This sport is changing rapidly. More change is on the way with an expanded playoff and schools directly paying players just around the corner once the House settlement passes.
