Kentucky will be without its second-leading scorer in TyTy Washington when the Wildcats take on Mississippi State on Tuesday.

Sources tell KSR that Washington, who suffered a left ankle injury in Kentucky’s loss at Auburn on Saturday, will not suit up for the Wildcats. It will be his first missed game of the season.

ESPN’s Jonathan Givony was the first to break the news.

Washington went down with the left ankle injury with 8:20 to go in the first half at Auburn, landing awkwardly on a floater in the paint. He was helped off the floor and taken back to the locker room before being ruled out the remainder of the game.

After being officially listed as “day-to-day” with the injury, John Calipari said Monday evening that he was unsure if Washington or Sahvir Wheeler (head/neck) would play vs. Mississippi State.

“We may not have any guards tomorrow. We don’t know,” Calipari said during his call-in radio show. “Thank goodness the game is at 9 (PM), we got a little more time. But we don’t know yet. We don’t know. … We may be short guards, we don’t know yet.”

While Wheeler’s status remains uncertain, Washington’s is now clear.

The standout freshman is averaging 13.6 points (50.5% FG, 39.7% 3PT), 4.4 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals per contest.
