UK Commit High School Roundup

Now that the high school basketball season is in full force, the UK basketball commits for 2014 (Booker, Lyles, Towns, Ulis) are searching for state championships and showcasing their talents in national tournaments. In the last week, the four recruits have put up some impressive numbers   -Devin Booker: Booker might be the biggest one man show in high school basketball. Despite putting up monster numbers every game, his team (Moss Point HS) sits at 3-8, including a loss at Marshall County to Ballard. The most recent game for Booker (12/14) saw him go off for 45 points while his team lost 78-67 to McGill Toolen. Here's some highlights starting at the 2 minute mark.   - Trey Lyles: Lyles had a huge start to the week by knocking off Huntington Prep, the former home of Andrew Wiggins, 78-70. Lyles had 12 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks against the Huntington Prep squad that boasts Montaque Gil-Caesar, Josh Perkins, Jalen Lindsey, and JaQuan Lyle. All 4 are highly ranked recruits on all recruiting databases. The power forward followed up the statement win with a beatdown of Evansville North, 85-47. Lyles finished the game with 26 points and 13 rebounds in a game where he played sparingly once the game was out of hand. In the high school hotbed of Indiana, Lyles is making a strong case for Mr. Basketball.   - Karl Towns: Towns' season started a little later than his future teammates as he played his first games of the season on 12/20 in a 46-44 win against East Brunswick where he tallied 21 points and 10 rebounds. Towns hit a long 3 with 22 seconds to tie that game and maintain his team atop the New Jersey high school rankings. Towns followed up the first win with a 19 point 9 rebound game against Shore Regional where he took the game over in the final minutes going on a 9 point individual scoring run when the game was tied 60-60. The 7 footer continues to show unbelievable shooting range which is going to be deadly as a center in college.   - Tyler Ulis: While he may be known as a pass-first point guard in the AAU ranks, Ulis is a scoring machine for Marian Catholic. After suffering their first loss to Etiwanda HS of California, Ulis notched 2 victories this week against Benet Academdy and TF North. Ulis led his team back from a 20 point deficit against Benet where he took over the 4th quarter and overtime en route to 33 points 5 rebounds 5 assists and 4 steals in an 89-84 shootout win. Ulis and Marian Catholic followed up the exciting comeback with a comfortable 67-48 win against TF North. Ulis tallied 22 points 5 assists and 2 steals to keep Marian Catholic in the top 5 of the cutthroat Chicago basketball rankings.
